It is that time of the year again when we begin preparations for our annual Venezuelan blue marlin tournament. That’s right, the 11th annual, now called, Solera Open International La Guaira Billfish Shootout will be taking place April 26th to May 1st, 2005 and as always, it promises to be better than its ten previous editions. Maybe this will be the year we’ll beat our very own World Record of 256 blue marlin released in a tournament which we set in 1999. |

The Bahamas Billfish Championship has taken place annually since its first season in 1973. Spanning April through June, all Championship tournaments are governed by a uniform set of rules controlling minimum lengths for qualifying billfish, line class, fishing hours and entry fees. Anglers can fish any or all of the tournaments with cumulative points determining the overall Bahamas Billfish Champions. |
White Marlin Open - World's largest billfish tournament.The White Marlin Open is the largest billfishing tournament in the world. Held in Ocean City, Maryland annually since 1974, the WMO attracts anglers from around the world to compete for millions of dollars in prize money for catches of Atlantic gamefish. The 2003 White Marlin Open was held August 4-8, and 398 boats vied for over $2,200,000 in prize money. That total included the largest cash prize ever awarded in any type of fishing tournament: $1,303,965 for a 78.5 pound white marlin. |
