YORK, Maine -- The waves are waist high. The air is heavy with humidity, the sand gray and claylike. It's surfing, New England-style -- or, more specifically, it's in the style of Long Sands Beach, where the Northern New England district of the Eastern Surfing Association is holding its third competition of the season.
